Responsible gambling means gambling stays something you pay for and control. You set the budget before you play and stick to a time limit, and if it stops being fun you ask for help early. This page covers the warning signs, practical limits, the tools in a Fortunica account, GAMSTOP, blocking options and free UK support; all numbers were checked on 2 October 2026.
Nobody under 18 may gamble. Fortunica is not licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, so UK protections such as GAMSTOP do not apply. Our Fortunica legitimacy and UK status check explains what that means in practice, and the casino as a whole is covered in our Fortunica Casino UK snapshot.
Signs that gambling is starting to cause harm
It is rarely one big loss that starts the damage. More often it is a slow drift in habits. Looking back over the last 12 months:
- Do you spend more money or time gambling than you planned?
- Do you need bigger stakes to feel the same excitement?
- Do you go back, the same day or later, to try to recover money you lost?
- Have you borrowed money, used credit or sold something to fund gambling?
- Do you hide your gambling, or play down what you spend, with family or friends?
- Do you feel restless, irritable or guilty when you try to cut down?
- Has gambling affected your sleep, work, relationships or ability to pay bills?
- Do you gamble to cope with stress, boredom or a low mood?
A single “yes” is worth pausing over. If several apply, talk to someone now. GambleAware has a self-assessment and a postcode search for local services, and you don’t need to call it a “problem” to ring the helpline.
Practical limits that work
Limits work best when they are set in advance, while you are calm.
- Set a budget from spare money. Work it out once rent, bills, food and savings are covered; what is left is money you can afford to lose. Once it is spent, you are done for the day.
- Set a time limit. Use an alarm or the activity limit described below, and take a proper break at least once an hour.
- Never chase losses. Raising stakes or playing on to recover what you lost is how small losses turn into large ones. Treat a loss as money spent and end the session.
- Don’t gamble with borrowed money or on credit. UK Gambling Commission licensees have been barred from taking credit-card payments since 14 April 2020; an offshore casino is not bound by that rule.
- Don’t gamble when drinking, upset or tired. That is when judgement about stakes and time is at its weakest.
- Check your records. Once a week, compare your deposit history with your budget rather than relying on memory.
Why bonus wagering matters for your budget
Take Fortunica’s welcome offer. Deposit £100 and the bonus is another £100, plus 50 free spins, but it has to be wagered 40 times, so £4,000 of bets stand between it and withdrawable cash, and the amount you can convert is capped at £500 (five times the bonus). Since 19 January 2026, operators licensed in Great Britain may not set bonus wagering above 10x (£1,000 on the same bonus), and their online slots are capped at £5 per spin (£2 for ages 18 to 24). Neither rule reaches Fortunica, which leaves the job to your own limits. If £4,000 of play is more than you had planned, skip the bonus.
Tools in a Fortunica account
Inside a Fortunica account, the “My limits” section offers daily controls and a timed break (interface wording captured on 27 September 2026).
| Tool | What it restricts | Period |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Total deposits you can make | Per day |
| Loss limit | How much you can lose | Per day |
| Wager limit | How much you can bet | Per day |
| Activity limit | Minutes spent playing games | Per day |
| Take a break | Excludes you from playing | 1, 3, 7, 14 or 21 days |
| Self-exclusion (reported) | Access to the account | 6 months or more, via support |
A limit can’t be removed or increased for 1 day after you set it, so a decision taken calmly still stands on a bad evening. If you catch yourself counting down that day so you can raise the limit, that in itself is a warning sign.
Longer breaks go through support. Reviewers including CorrectCasinos and WagerPals report self-exclusion for a minimum of six months on request, plus a 7-day cooling-off period, and say marketing emails stop while the exclusion runs. It applies to Fortunica alone. Make the request in writing to [email protected] and ask for written confirmation. One reviewer found no deposit or loss limits in spring 2026, and some Trustpilot users say their account-closure emails took several attempts. So if “My limits” is missing, ask support in writing and back that up with the device and bank blocks below.
GAMSTOP: what it covers and what it doesn’t
GAMSTOP is a free self-exclusion service run by The National Online Self Exclusion Scheme Limited. Anyone living in the UK can use it to exclude themselves from gambling websites and apps licensed in Great Britain, choosing 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. The exclusion can’t be lifted before the minimum period ends, and afterwards it stays in place until you ask for it to be removed. Every online operator licensed by the UK Gambling Commission has had to take part since 31 March 2020. Registration is at gamstop.co.uk.
Its reach ends at operators licensed in Great Britain, and it cannot block sites outside the scheme. With no UK Gambling Commission licence, Fortunica sits outside it too. The Gambling Commission has advised combining self-exclusion with blocking software and payment blocks precisely because of that gap.
If you have registered with GAMSTOP, please don’t use this or any other gambling site. The exclusion exists to protect you. Strengthen it with the tools below, and call 0808 8020 133 if the urge to gamble is hard to manage.
Blocking software and bank blocks
- BetBlocker (betblocker.org): free blocking software from a charity registered in Scotland. It stops gambling sites and apps opening on the devices you install it on.
- Gamban (gamban.com): blocks gambling sites and apps across your devices. GambleAware lists it as free for 7 days, then a paid subscription.
- Bank gambling block: many UK banks offer a setting in their app that blocks gambling payments.
A bank block may not catch deposits made in cryptocurrency, which Fortunica accepts, so pair it with a device blocker.

Under-18s and protecting children
The minimum age for gambling, and for opening a casino account, is 18. Under the Gambling Act 2005 it is an offence to invite, cause or permit a child (under 16) or a young person (16 or 17) to gamble. Operators licensed in Great Britain must confirm your age and identity before you can play. At Fortunica, reviewers report that full checks start at withdrawal or once lifetime deposits pass €5,000, as our Fortunica KYC and AML policy explains, so an adult’s unlocked phone or saved card is the likeliest way in for a child.
- Turn on the parental controls in phones, tablets, consoles and browsers, and make app-store purchases need your approval.
- Don’t save card details or casino logins on devices children use, and log out after every session.
- Install a blocker such as BetBlocker on shared and children’s devices.
- Check statements for payments you don’t recognise.
GambleAware lists the NHS National Gambling Clinic as seeing young people aged 13 to 18 from England; eligibility rules differ between listings, so confirm with the clinic.
Responsible gambling FAQ
What responsible gambling tools does Fortunica offer?
Under “My limits” you can cap deposits, losses, wagers and activity (time) per day, and “Take a break” locks you out for 1, 3, 7, 14 or 21 days. A limit can’t be removed or increased for 1 day. According to reviewers, support can arrange self-exclusion of six months or more.
Is Fortunica on GAMSTOP?
No. Fortunica has no UK Gambling Commission licence, and GAMSTOP’s coverage stops at operators licensed in Great Britain. If you have registered with GAMSTOP, please don’t use this or any other gambling site. Free support is available on 0808 8020 133.
What is the National Gambling Helpline number?
0808 8020 133. It is run by GamCare and is free, confidential and open 24 hours a day. Live chat is at gamcare.org.uk, and WhatsApp uses the same number.
How can I block gambling sites on my phone?
Install BetBlocker (free) or Gamban (7 days free, then a subscription, according to GambleAware), and ask your bank to block gambling payments. A device blocker also covers crypto deposits that a bank block may miss.
Is the Gamblers Anonymous line a crisis line?
No. 0330 094 0322 is an information line about meetings. If you are struggling to cope, call Samaritans free on 116 123 at any time; in an emergency, call 999.
